This story http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1343025/Transsexual-refused-8-000-breasts-NHS-AFTER-60-000-gender-swap-surgery-wins-court-battle.html is hard to believe. A man who wanted breast implants received over $15,000. in free legal aid to force his shared primary care trust provider to divert $12,000. from cancer patients to pay for his breast augmentation. And he WON. He will now get the larger fake breasts he wanted, paid for by taxpayers. “‘Now I can get on with the rest of my life and stop spending days thinking about killing myself” said the unemployed man, “… friends have said I’m a lot happier and more relaxed.’

Model and Anorexia Awareness Activist Isabelle Caro’s death at the age of 28 was announced today. She died on Nov 17 after a three week hospitalization. Her death is presumed to be from complications related to Anorexia which she battled from the age of 13, after being told by a fashion designer that although already thin she would have to lose twenty more pounds if she ever wanted to work as a model. She so wanted to model that she put herself on a starvation diet and a tragic body weight dysphoria began to rule her life. She wanted her emaciated image to be shown as a caution and a protest against the social pressure for hyper-thinness in young women and girls. The 2007 billboard campaign was called “NO Anorexia” and was banned in some places. She weighed only 63 pounds at the time of the photo shoot. She was quoted as saying” I thought this could be a chance to use my suffering to get a message across, and finally put an image on what thinness represents and the danger it leads to — which is death.” In honor of her wishes the photos are posted above. Rest in Peace, Isabelle.

This is a reflection on a comment left on this post: http://gendertrender.wordpress.com/2010/12/20/t-mod-girls-tweeners-trenders-and-fun-with-censorship-and-death-threats-2/
The commenter’s words are in italics below.
I’ll prob do a revised/extended post on trans tropes in future. Feel free to add your own in comments and I’ll include them. Thanks. And thanks to niksebastian for taking the time to comment.
Have you investigated transgender people beyond Dirt’s blog?
[Transgender Trope #1- Trans questioners and critics must not be informed on the topic.]
I’m sorry you see them so negatively. Let me see if I can explain my perspective on it – I hope you’re willing to hear me out.
FTMs are not upset because they do not fit into the typical image of females.
[Transgender Trope #2. Trans people have no problem living outside of gender roles. It’s sex they want to disguise, for no social reason whatsoever.] (Of course females don’t want to fit into the typical image of females. The typical image of females is a sexist, sexualized stereotype and only males who objectify females and get off on the thought of inhabiting a female “object” would want to “fit into” that role.)
Or at least, not true FTMs.
[Transgender Trope #3- The trans person considers themselves uniquely authentic. Others disguising themselves as opposite sexed are pretenders.]
There are many FTMs who are in fact feminine, with eyeliner and manicures, and they date men. They were never “butch.” It would make no sense for them to transition because of societal roles, because they see more media examples of women like them than men like them.
[Transgender Trope #4 Males who don’t fully conform to masculinity don’t receive male privilege, men who wear eyeliner are treated socially exactly the same as women.]
They move from the comfortable position of a healthy straight woman …
[Transgender Trope #5. The social position of women is a comfortable one.]
…to the highly uncomfortable position of a gay man who is anatomically abnormal.
[Transgender Trope #6. Disabled or differently abled persons are not gendered by society.]
They realise the potential negative effects of testosterone,
[Transgender Trope #7. People don’t embrace things that are risky or unhealthy.]
the high violence rate against transgender people,
[Transgender Trope #8. “People” commit violence against the insufficiently camouflaged transgender. *psst, it’s men. MEN commit violence against other MEN and against WOMEN).
and the fact that they may lose the support of their family, friends, and government.
[Transgender Trope #9. People don’t do body modifications to marginalize themselves, or as part of belonging to subcultures.] Piercing, lobe stretching and face/neck/hand tattoos, bizarre plastic surgeries, anorexia, bulimia, BIID etc. say otherwise.]
They transition because even if everyone else finds them beautiful, even if they see a pretty girl in the mirror, that’s not what they want.
[Transgender Trope #10. People have a “right” to see their personal ideal in the mirror. And if one’s appearance is not ideal, one cannot be happy and fulfilled. Transgender Trope#11.Society treats beautiful women better than average or homely men.]
They dream as men, and wake up surprised at what they find.
[Transgender Trope #12. Humans can’t fantasize so intensely that reality surprises them.]
It’s as if a woman had a penis sewn onto her – she will always know it’s not meant to be there.
[Transgender Trope #13. Being born in a healthy body is equivalent to being subjected to a Nazi Doctor’s transplantation experimentation. Transgender Trope #14. Trans people are physically deformed or disabled.]
Contrary to the image depicted by you and Dirt of trans as a trend, there is no trans crowd or even visibility in my area, or anywhere nearby.
[Transgender Trope #15. Behavioral memes are spread locally from person to person. The media and online trends and virtual communities have no effect on people’s lives.]
I have met two or three transwomen, in their 20s and 30s, within a 2 hour radius of my town, and only one transman, 6 hours away. In New York, 1/3 of trans youth are disowned and kicked out of their homes.
[Transgender Trope #16- made-up statistics sound authoritative and significant.]
1/2 attempt suicide, nationwide. [*see trope #16, above.]
[Transgender Trope #17- emotional distress=authenticity of one’s delusion.]
Peers are slightly more accepting than older generations, but bullying of trans teens is practically universal.
[Transgender Trope #18 all gender nonconforming people are transgender. Transgender Trope #19-refusal of bystanders to participate in and affirm non-consensual fantasy equals cruelty.]
Trans people cannot visit certain countries for fear of death.
[Transgender Trope #20.Transgender people being treated the same as other women, or homosexuals, or gender non-conforming people is uniquely unfair.]
The insurance system has denied transmen coverage of both male and female exclusive treatments.
[Transgender Trope #21- It’s unfair for medical providers to decline unnecessary treatment for healthy people. Transgender Trope #22. For-profit insurers and providers that decline coverage for pre-existing conditions should make a special exception in the case of transgender.]
Saying transgender people are transitioning because it’s cool is like saying depressed people commit suicide for the glory.
[Transgender Trope #23- “transitioning” is like a form of suicide.]
Also, you misunderstand the “trans-trender” last quoted. “Transgender” is in fact an umbrella term, [See T Trope #1.] and it doesn’t mean that everyone who is trans is the opposite gender of their birth sex. It involves people who are “genderqueer” and enjoy presenting as both male and female at different times. Trans = transcending. Transcending gender norms.
[see Transgender Trope #18- All gender nonconforming people are transgender.] (Everyone transcends gender norms. Because the norms are fictional. Transcending gender norms has nothing to do with biologic sex, or using medical or surgical body-mod to obscure or disguise ones sex.)
You can be masculine and still be female, of course, but many people [*Many FEMALES*] self identify as both butch and trans, because they’re proud that they go outside of “binary” – the idea of two, restrictive gender roles.
[Transgender Trope #24. Females and males who reject gender roles are not truly female or male.] (Claiming that women who reject female social roles are not actually female is the opposite of revolutionary. It’s sexist gender conservatism.)
[Transgender Trope #25. Gender roles are not artificially imposed by a political system specifically to control humans who are capable of gestation, but are instead organic and tied to ones physical self biologically or neurologically according to ones sex.]
[Transgender Trope #26. A new sex-based gender binary (cis/trans) should be added to the usual one (female/male) because binaries are good.]
They weren’t at all instructing girls that they’re male if they’re not feminine, simply saying that transcendence of gender, to some extent, even applies to Dirt. [Transgender Tropes #18,19,20,21]
I’m curious – how do you explain transwomen? With this idea of it as a trend, embracing the oppressive privileged gender, transwomen would be acting contrary to logic. They not only withstand the same discrimination as FTMs, but they willingly give up male privilege.
[Well you already claimed above that there is no privilege to being or appearing male, but okay. Transgender Trope #27. Male privilege does, or does not exist, according to one’s argument.
Transgender Trope #28 Privileged people choosing to “go native” and act out their fantasy of life in the underclass are the same as those who have that class forced upon them from birth.
Transgender Trope #29 A lifetime of privilege and supremacy training can be erased from one’s learned behavior through an act of will based on one’s fantasy of occupying the lives of the underclass that one observes.]
There are two types of male trans. The vast number of transgender are hetero male “Autogynophiles” who get a paraphillic fetishistic thrill pretending they are female, that is to say those who willingly adopt an appearance to “pass” socially as a member of the underclass do so because they fetishize and want to colonize the imagined experience of the female underclass that they objectify. They are the foot soldiers of the gender conservatives, those that believe that gender roles are so entwined with biologic sex that they seek to disguise themselves as female bodies in attempt to experience inclusion in the world of females that has been off limits to them as members of the oppressor class (“going native”). That’s why most men trannify in middle age after marriage and male privileged career and children. They fashion their bodies into a woman-suit as the ultimate mid-life gift to themselves after a lifetime of autogynophillic sexual fetishism.
A much smaller number of gender-nonconforming gay males “Homosexual Transsexuals” trannify to fit in better with conservative heterosexual social norms.
They accept that they may never fit the ideal of female beauty.
It’s not about being an ideal beauty (although the more money one has to spend the “better” female body model one can purchase- of course hands and feet cannot yet be cut to smaller size.) It’s about being treated as a sexual stereotype that one believes in perpetuating and wants to occupy and “experience”.
It’s a difficult world for them, and transmen too, regardless of what you say.
I say those that are born male receive enormous privilege compared to those born female. Females that disguise themselves as male receive privilege when they are successfully disguised.
It’s a difficult world for women and girls.
*Videos are examples of Autogynephilia*

To the FTM woman who said : “Last time I checked, I couldn’t pick anything up with my breasts or walk down the street on my uterus. I’m perfectly fine without them. If you all want to hold on to those parts because you are female, then you should probably start having babies and breastfeeding because that’s what those parts are for.”
Your fantasy that women’s breasts ovaries etc. are purposeless beyond childbirth is a symptom of your self-hatred.
Women’s breasts are part of their lymphatic system, essential for cleansing the blood. And According to the Mayo Clinic, 20 to 60 percent of women will experience chronic pain after a mastectomy–a condition known as Post-Mastectomy Pain Syndrome (PMPS). Symptoms of this condition include pain in the chest wall, pain or itching in the shoulder or armpit, pain around the surgical scar and tingling down the arm.
Ovaries are part of the endocrine system which regulates hormones. Risk of cardiovascular disease following oophorectomy increases by 700%. Oophorectomy before the age of 45 is associated with a fivefold mortality from neurologic and mental disorders. Urinary incontinence frequently occurs as a byproduct of hysterectomy. If the vagina is retained, vaginal prolapse may occur from the removal of supporting structures, and normal lubrication is impaired. There is an increased risk of kidney cancer.
Your natural hormone balance is impaired. Males produce estrogen and progesterone as well as testosterone. Removal of estrogen and progesterone causes premature aging, as these are anti-aging hormones. This is also why FTMs experience male pattern baldness much more rapidly than men: not enough estrogen. Lack of estrogen causes levels of the neurotransmitters dopamine, acetylcholine, norepinephrine, GABA and serotonin to decrease. Estrogen stimulates the release of growth hormone and may help prevent Alzheimer’s although research is preliminary on that point. Progesterone is a precursor to other adrenal hormones and promotes lipolysis (fat breakdown). It normalizes levels of blood sugar, zinc, and copper.
And this is only what we know at this point in time. New hormones and hormone byproducts are being identified all the time. Over 50 recognized at this time, and many precurse, stimulate, or inhibit others in a complex feedback system.
Not to mention that hormone injections cause peaks and drops in hormone levels and feedback networks unlike anything naturally experienced.
So those useless organs that you think females have are actually beautiful, elegantly designed, complex and important.

Butch Pride blogger and spoken-word artist “Dirt” has been blogging for some time now about the teen/tweener transgender trend. Girls who believe that rejection of increasingly constrictive female norms means they “must be male”. They rightfully refuse to be “treated like girls” in all the ways gender is inflicted upon them. These girls don’t want to act out a “female” role in relationships with boys (understandably), but don’t want to be marginalized as the gender-non-conforming women that they are. Or they don’t want to be “othered” as lesbians because their only images of lesbians in mainstream media are presented as goony or the weird androids of male lesbo-porn. Femininity-rejecting females simply DO NOT EXIST in the media reflection that is so important to children and teens in western culture. These kids want to fit into social norms. Wear the right brands, get the right haircuts, look like the people in magazines. “Transgender” has a certain cachet, a certain alterna-cool about it for those in middle school and high school years. Declaring one’s trans status is like getting the ultimate super-cool tattoo or piercing body mod and provides girls with “special” status and treatment among their peers as well as school officials, employers, parents and other authorities. This “special” status in the age of reality TV has commercial value, both actual and abstract. Among this Generation Z crowd, girls who state they are transgender can test some forms of male privilege and reject the misfit role of female nonconformity, as long as they strongly affirm traditional gender roles and male supremacy and deny that they actually exist as female.
And there is a whole decade of testosterone injecting “elders”, moon-faced bearded and hirsute, (except for their estrogen-starved preternaturally balding heads), who realize they are now alone in a drug and surgery induced limbo, not male but no longer recognizably female, who are egging on and supporting this trend in the belief that greater numbers will equal a larger community for them to occupy comfortably. “I realize now I don’t fit in with anyone but you guys” is an oft heard refrain among the Testosterone-modders.
The trans tweener trenders bond and encourage online via YouTube groups and web forums which function much like pro-ana, pro-mia, and trans-abled communities, encouraging dysphoria and censoring questioning and dissent.
These are the issues Dirt’s been blogging about and she’s been getting quite a response from the trans trend community, including a coordinated attempt by trans trenders on facebook, tumbler, livejournal (who knew anyone still used livejournal) and twitter to actually get her blog REMOVED from Blogspot. Several blogs have sprung up to refute Dirt’s perspective or to protest her right to express it, including one blogger, Lorretta W. who claims they are an “online security professional” who promises to forward Dirt’s personal info, name and home address to people that email her, and sends it to anyone who publishes Dirt online in an effort to promote stalking and terrorism of feminist trans-questioning. She states her confusion about how Dirt “dresses like a man” as reason for her actions. Here are some recent comments as a result:

DIRT ALERT spotted dirt at the kroger at 13 and woodward in royal oak, 6pm tonight followed her around for a min said hi she flat out ignored me
@dirt 4:47 HAHAHA dirt I’ve seen you irl and you barely top 5 feet. No doubt just about anyone could whip your butt in 2 minutes flat
Here’s an example of a trans-trender instructing females that are not “girly” enough that they must be “male”:
Anonymous said…you are aware that you fall under the umbrella term ‘transgender’ considering you don’t conform to the gender binary by being butch?
That’s it- whoever doesn’t conform to old-fashioned gender stereotypes is “transgender”. There are no femininity-rejecting females or masculinity-rejecting males, according to these folks. And if you disagree- these online creeps will stalk you at your home and threaten you with beatings and death!
Male privilege is a pretty addictive drug. Especially for young women who have not yet come to terms with the state of the world around them and are only able to see the small picture. Like all males, these aspiring-to-maleness girls need to wield that dominating oppressive privilege on someone. These girls that feel too powerless conformist and impotent to survive in their female skins and to create real change in society. There seems to be a really high correlation between girls who strongly conformed to restrictive old-fashioned female gender norms and those who “transition” into modifying their appearance to disguise their sex. Years ago kids would create social movements to break down oppressive systems. Now they disguise themselves as members of the ruling class and embrace the same discriminatory systems that have oppressed them. Beyond merely bowing to male supremacy they’ve become active perpetrators.

A NewYorkTimes piece in this week’s Fashion and Style section says it was.
Well, the year of the MALE transsexual anyway. Not a single female was quoted in the article. The article states that crossdressers, transsexuals and males styling themselves in stereotypically “female” ways are “edging into the mainstream”. Much of the article’s focus is on male transsexual fashion models and model Lea T. who was featured in this fall’s Givenchy campaign. ““I thought this would be a nice message for another tranny: ‘Look, we can be the same as other girls and boys,’” Lea says.
The highly gendered fashion industry is embracing male transsexual images to model clothes marketed to females and (male) transsexuals. Why the trend of increased numbers of transsexuals in the fashion business? “There are few groups of people for whom fashion, makeup and hair is more relevant” says magazine editor Luis Venegas.
A very high profile piece on transsexual fashion, here is the link:

Jack Halbersham was asked for her thoughts on the theoretical divide between transsexuality and radical feminism, and this was her reply: “The radical feminist critique of transsexuality, I on the one hand have to acknowledge it on the other hand I have to say it’s kind of old at this point, maybe it’s not in the UK, maybe that’s still a really live issue, but in the US, and that’s fair enough that seems to be a sort of, um, a retro form of feminism, that doesn’t acknowledge the construction of gender that in fact feminism has been -the discourse it has argued for- from the beginning.
But in the US, you know there was a lot of discussion of Janice Raymonds book the Transsexual Empire book, that came out I think in 1978, and there, there hasn’t been a big feminist lobby other than the Michigan, you know, brouhaha, about whether transwomen were allowed onto women-only grounds, It seems to me a little bit of a storm in a teacup in terms of the queer communities in urban areas within which Feminists, transgender people, genderqueer people, leathermen and so on sort of interact in diverse ways.
So I’m less interested in these internecine fights between feminists and trans people, between gay, lesbian activists and trans people, than I am in this big standoff between some supposedly unmovable force of heterosexuality (with gender normativity presumed within it) and all of the rest of us. Because somebody partners with transsexual people and a lot of times they’re not other transsexual people by the way. There are a lot of so-called gender normative people and heterosexual people who are engaged in desiring relationships with people who are not gender normative. And who defy the hetero/homo binary as well. So that’s what I would say to that. “
Halberstam’s critique is therefore:
- Radical feminism is not new.
- Radical feminism does not equate sex with gender.
- She is not interested in the topic.
Halberstam like all trans-activists makes no distinction whatsoever between biological sex and gender and does not comprehend the Radical Feminist idea that gender does not exist beyond it’s function as a social construct designed to oppress those humans born with the capacity for reproduction (females). Radical feminism does not condone the transsexual philosophy that broad human traits, thoughts, characteristics and feelings are related to the reproductive capacity of one’s body. Males who “feel like females” would have no need to change the way the public at large perceives them.

BIG NEWS today- scientists using stem cell experimentation have produced offspring in mice using DNA from two males. Gay males rejoice! Of course they still have to implant the egg into some poor female’s womb.
Or maybe NOT. Scientists are hard at work figuring out how to insert cadaver uteri into males for purposes of male childbearing. With cloning, stem cells and transplantation, male dreams of motherhood can’t be too far off.
