CHART! “Gender Identity” laws by state: definitions, citations, contexts

This is sort of mindblowing… seriously.
I made this excel spreadsheet of “gender identity” anti-discrimination legislation almost a year ago. I have hesitated to share it on the internet because there are surely errors (in the weblinks and citations if nothing else) and because IT SHOULD NOT BE RELIED UPON FOR LEGAL RESEARCH. But still, it’s pretty sweet and helps frame the larger legal picture.
There are 3 tabs in the spreadsheet.
- The main tab includes a complete accounting of all state “gender identity” definitions used for the purpose of anti-discrimination protections with sex override text in red (17 states total).
- The middle tab highlights “gender identity” definitions that sloppily confuse or otherwise lump sexual orientation and gender identity together (6/17 states).
- The final tab features additional legislative language that makes exception for sex in particular contexts such as locker rooms, bathrooms, and sleeping quarters; or for particular reasons such as privacy or safety (11/17…
