By Dr. Kelly Winters, Ph.D., member of the International Advisory Panel for the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care:

WPATH: clarify and correct the childhood “desistance” myth statement in the SOC7

WPATH: Issue a public policy statement discrediting the practice of gender-conversion psychotherapies that is consistent with the SOC7

APA: clarify and correct the childhood “desistance” myth statement in the DSM-5

APA: remove “Transvestic Disorder” category from the DSM-5

WHO: initiate substantive conversation on converging the Adult/Adolescent Gender Incongruence categories in the proposed ICD-11 with the childhood category to refute the historical stereotype of childhood gender “confusion” and practice of gender conversion psychotherapies

US Dept. of HHS: align transition related categories in ICD-10-CM to ICD-11 in 2018

US Dept. of HHS/CMS: issue a National Coverage Determination for surgical transition care that is recognized as medically necessary by US and international medical authorities

Thanks for this. An important reference.

  2. rheapdx1 Says:

All that will be said from here is that, when one reads through the litany of issues to be restated, deleted or otherwise in the name of trans-children…how is this any different from what was done by the nazis during WWII?

  3. donesoverydone Says:

Reblogged this on stop trans chauvinism.

  4. The Sceptic Says:

This is BAD. Winters is just one of a legion of dedicated hard core political activists. Yes, as rheapdx1 Says: “how is this any different from what was done by the Nazis during WWII?”

  5. floydmerit Says:

This. This right here is the problem with pretending that psychology is science.

  6. hearthrising Says:

On the one hand this sounds terrifying; on the other, perhaps it will solidify this group’s reputation as a bunch of crackpots.

  7. Emily Says:

It’s interesting to note, after reading Dr. Winters’ suggestions, that she has no complaints whatsoever about radfems (at least in this presentation). No references to “TERFs”, only right-wing hate groups. I would consider this a call to action, if I were you. I just listened to Julie Bindel’s talk from Thinking Differently yesterday and she begged for louder, more courageous voices to speak out against gender ideology in the radfem community. Yell loud enough for Dr. Winters to hear you!

  8. punkworked Says:

Threw in the UN convention on ‘Rights of the Child’ and the U.K. Activists will have another big stick to beat us with. Every other medicine and medical procedure launched has scare stories run in the press, regularly. Vaccines, statins, breast implants. The media are silent on Trans procedures. Very sinister. Who is being gagged?

  9. GenderDysphoriaCritical Says:

I just need to say I was wondering when the ‘psychology community’ would start acquiescing to this cult’s demands in this kind of way. I told my old psychiatrist back in 2006 ‘Shame on you for being part of a community that allows its members to help in the torture of people held prisoner on Gitmo!’ I also suggested that it was interesting that although the study of cults is well known to the psychiatric community, with government being exactly defined by their lists, that they do absolutely sweet Franny Adams to wake people up from that shit. I’m not some tinfoil freak, I don’t believe in sending people to die and destroying whole areas of the planet and condoning genocide because a few greedy fuckers in the top echelons of government want things only for themselves. That’s cult trickery and now one patriarchal cult is bowing down to a new and more powerful one. I’m terrified at what is happening.

I stopped talking to a friend, recently, because she’s become rather unpleasant in a lot of ways. One of the ways she is become horrible is that she has come to blame women for everything that is wrong with the word. What the hell happened in her head I don’t know because every time I asked her what was going on she avoided answering me. She knew I wouldn’t take any bullshit or lazy intellectual mind foolery lying down so she avoided telling me anything and kept spouting non-sense. How she came to praise this transcult and blame women for stuff I don’t know but holy crap when it happens with your friends and family it’s like being part of a real life ‘Body Snatchers’ situation.

    Truly terrifying!!

Dr. Winters is deferred to as a top pediatric transition expert. Gives talks to WPATH and peds transition organizations all over the US. Read this and decide if you think Winters is qualified…

    • Janetwo Says:

Its hard to believe the scientific community standards have fallen so low as to consider this batshit crazy loon as an expert in psychiatry. This dude has less expertise in pediatry or psychiatry than a plummer does in electricity. In the mean time, expert trans critics are silenced. Thanks again to Gallus for the on going reporting.

    • Trish Says:

That’s because psychiatry/psychology is largely driven by unscientific ideas and practices.

If it were scientific, practices like cognitive behavioral therapy, which has a scientific basis and scientific evidence to support it, would be the most common form of therapy.

  11. Oak and Ash Says:

I went to the link, where Kenneth Zucker is mentioned as part of the desistance myth. If their facts are correct–and I have no idea whether they are–then some of his treatment of gender non-conforming children involved forcing them to conform to stereotypes, which I’ve read elsewhere, as well. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t surprise me if that were true, given that a great many people believe gender presentation and biological sex should match in culturally acceptable ways. They might disagree on whether a mismatch requires a change in behavior or a change in identity, but they all seem to become unhinged at the suggestion that a girl who wears her hair short, refuses frilly dresses, and prefers trucks to dolls is as normal a girl as (and I would go so far as to suggest more normal than) a girl who is simply a walking feminine stereotype.

It’s as if the old comment about Ginger Rogers doing everything Fred Astaire did but backwards and in heels has been turned on its head. Instead of a factual description, it’s now a prescription–girls can do anything they want AS LONG as they do it backwards and in high heels. And if they prefer not to, or would rather dance with Ginger than with Fred, they must really be boys.

It is a source of continuing frustration to me that most parents and therapists don’t simply ask children why they think they are or want to be the opposite sex. I suspect most of the children’s answers would revolve around gender non-conforming preferences and could be addressed by telling them they can do or have what they want as a member of their birth sex, including marrying a same-sex prince or princess. If this doesn’t happen for a lot of children, it’s probably because the adults in their lives are mired in gender stereotypes and/or homophobia.

    • Janetwo Says:

My understanding of Ken Zucker approach is that it is based on the fact that life is easier when ones conform to social norms. Its not false in many ways, even if personally, I feel that in the long run, its a lot better to fight to change norms which are limiting for the individuals and force them to fit into a mold. At least, he was not preaching to drug and mutilate kids to have them conform to gender stereotypes.

    • katiesan Says:

Kenneth Zucker transitioned plenty of kids. I’m no big fan. But, he also conceded that there were kids who he didn’t believe were trans and who were obsessing or misidentifying or who had parents who were confused. He put kids on blockers and then hormones and then approved them for massive, unnecessary cosmetic surgeries. Frankly, THAT’S what everyone should focus on. It’s not as if he’s some hero of gender criticism. He’s merely another data point in how the trans borg will take down ANYONE who doesn’t do exactly what activists demand.

He was a big proponent of transing kids, he just wouldn’t trans EVERY CHILD WHO CAME TO CAMH.

      • LC Says:

I don’t think anyone believes Zucker was a gender critical hero- but at the least, he was attempting to be scientific(compared to the standard rhetoric on transgenderism) and understand why kids believed they were trans. He gave many of them time to change their minds.

The important part to remember of the Zucker story is that he was transitioning some… but not all… kids. And the activists turned on him. Nothing short of blind, unquestioning obedience will be enough, and they don’t care what the evidence says.

  12. Em Says:

    Shorter, more concise:

    Enable the transactivists’ masturbation fantasies.

[OT for this thread and not necessarily for publication, just to let you know although maybe you read there] GallusMag, did you see the ” We Need to be Braver” post at Feminist Current? It’s by Meghan Murphy. She has been critical of gender ideology before, but has sometimes seemed like she wanted to be somewhat conciliatory or understanding of them, as in wanting to be sympathetic or find common ground. At least that is kind of my impression. This post basically says she is fed up with it and not gong to put up with the nonsense anymore:

    • Linx Says:

Thanks for posting this, Old Polar Bear. This article also contains links to the feminist conference held in Britain this last summer. I didn’t know they were out there yet so this article was great.

  14. Freyja Says:

Hi, Gallus Mag. Just FYI: Maybe the tide is turning? This guy is reported as a “transgender woman,” instead of fallaciously being called a woman without any qualification. I wonder if he’ll demand to be housed with women in prison (and in jail, for that matter).

    • Oak and Ash Says:

The more conservative and blue collar NY Post has called Kryzie King transgender from the beginning of the case. The NY Times refers to him as “caregiver” and “woman,” without mentioning his transgender status.

      • kesher Says:

He wasn’t a caregiver either. He was the child’s father’s boyfriend and accidentally got stuck with the kid when the father got sent to jail.

      • NYCAlison Says:

I’m from NYC (as my handle probably makes clear, LOL) and one thing I always want to emphasize to other women who may be reading but not commenting is that the NY Times is NOT your friend. It is not a leftist paper, it is not a paper for women’s liberation whatsoever! It’s a weakly pro-Democrat, extremely neoliberal paper, and it exists to promote the procapitalist, pomo funfem narrative on any issue you could name. You will never, ever see this paper touching an issue that could make a difference in women’s lives, and on the rare occasion it does, the editors will see to it that the patriarchal norm is strengthened and upheld. As you know, the SJW movement is no friend of women, it, too, exists to uphold patriarchal norms, and the Times editorial board’s adoption of “trans-friendly language” is nothing more than further evidence of their ultimate agenda: to uphold patriarchy, uphold neoliberalism, and keep women in our place.

      • rheapdx1 Says:

@OakandAsh Damnitall….another one. And yet there will be those who will still deny this criminal element does not exist in the community. One has to wonder how soon it will be til the trans crook defenders will be out in force, to ask for ‘compassion’ for this punk. (no different than those who seek compassion for the ones who shoplift, which is done by these POS’s to, in turn help fund their hormones, etc….after being fenced or sold).

Is it any wonder then, why there are a few who …like yours truly ….keep distance away from certain elements in this group, due to the issue of ‘guilt by association’. Scarier still…there may be more of these creeps on the horizon. Be they currently working legitimately now, or in other parts of the society…like the military.

      • OldPolarBear Says:

An observation related to the reply made my NYCAlison to this comment, which was quite correct and incisive about the New York Times: it took them decades to finally start using the word “gay” instead of “homosexual” because reasons, I guess. But when “queer” came into vogue and was being “reclaimed” by the queer theorists and trans, they adopted it with lightning speed. Funny thing, that. Also, not necessarily on the topic of this blog, but the NYT are shameless warmongers.

  15. Margie Says:

Big news! The Massachusetts transgender bathroom/public accommodations law that was passed in earlier this year is going on the ballot! The opponents got enough signatures to qualify. (See news article below.) The voters will have a chance to repeal the law or keep it. This is the first time in history that a “trans rights” law will be voted upon by itself – without being bundled with LGB rights. Trans activists will have to make their own case without using LGB people as human shields. Unfortunately, it is too late for the vote to happen this year, so 2018 is when it will be. That sets up a very interesting and unusual situation where each side will have over 2 years to prepare and marshal their forces. You can be sure that the trans activists will be wielding their whips and bellowing at LGB people to bully us into giving them our money and fighting their war for them. Lesbians and radical feminists should undermine this effort at every opportunity and make it known that “LGBT” does not give trans activists ownership over LGB bodies, LGB labor and LGB money. LGBs decide for ourselves what wars we will fight.

One other note: Even before this development in MA, there were clear signs that the anti-trans folks in Washington state were ready for a second attempt to put that state’s trans bathroom/locker regulation on the ballot. They failed to do this earlier this year. They had only about 6 weeks and they were able to get about 2/3 of the signatures that they needed. If they try again, they will have 6 months. And with all that extra time, there is every reason to believe that they will succeed. If this happens, it will go up for a vote in 2017.

  16. Linx Says:

There is an injectable estrogen shortage and mentally ill men claiming to be women (I’ve decided that is how I will describe them from now on because I cannot say any of the other shit anymore. Literally, I cannot do the T thing anymore.) are claiming death and destruction. They are injecting huge doses of this stuff and I can’t believe they are doing it without harm to the environment (they must be peeing it out, right?). The petulance and dire thinking and utter self absorption of the guys in these articles surely signals mental malfunction.”I can’t get my magnum kyng enormex sized syringe of fake estrogen? I’m going to kill myself! My man titties will shrink! Why isn’t anyone TALKING about this?”

    • rheapdx1 Says:

@Linx Someone needs to point out to the snowflake contingent that their ‘need’ for injectable estrogen is based on those being an ELECTIVE, while those who really need it, because it is a NECESSITY should take priority. I know that, my cats know that…sure as hell my docs do….and of course, every rational being on this site know this.

I will bet anything that if this makes it to NPR, the spin will be for the poor cult that will have to struggle to get to an aspired for status. Boo freaking hoo……

    • Oak and Ash Says:

In a world that appears to be on fire, with refugees trying to reach safety, children being trafficked, and an unarmed black man being shot by police just about every other week, not to mention the chronic, low-level threat of terrorism and mass violence, THIS is what these entitled narcissists call a crisis?

Pro-tip, guys in dresses: Some of us natal women learn early that the best way to stop worrying about our appearance is to back away from the mirror and look outward at the world.

  17. Melani_ Says:

I am super creeped out by the prospect that medical and psych professionals of an unethical bent have a lot to gain by promoting the trans agenda. Think about it… creating a patient that will need a lifetime of medical intervention … revenue$$$. Really disturbing.
