Open letter to the National Post: resistance to gender identity laws is about much more than political correctness

October 8, 2016

Lavender Blume

Recent articles (here and here) in the National Post have exposed a dispute surrounding gender identity taking place at U of T, one of many universities trying to navigate this polarizing issue. It’s critical that the public be informed that there’s more at stake than just transgender rights and freedom of expression.

Gender identity is indeed, as Jordan Peterson says, philosophically incoherent and scientifically unfounded. It’s also true that forcing others to participate in affirming one’s self-perception is a violation of individual autonomy. The more pressing concern, however, is not political correctness but rather that gender identity has created a dangerous landscape of competing rights that adversely impacts females. As such, dissension shouldn’t be monopolized by people who aren’t invested or interested in women’s rights.

According to NatPo writer Chris Selley, resistance to recognizing people’s chosen identity (the list is huge and continually expanding) comes down to a straightforward matter…

  1. An excellent article…

“It’s critical that the public be informed that there’s more at stake than just transgender rights and freedom of expression.

As such, dissension shouldn’t be monopolized by people who aren’t invested or interested in women’s rights.”

Blume brought up the tragic Hambrook incident in two different women’s homeless shelters, Colleen Francis exposing “her male genitalia” in the women’s locker room, and the fact that any male can claim gender identity. When I read this, I felt like vomiting. Seriously, this is sick. Matthew Harks has molested God knows how many little girls.

I guess the Calgary Sun was afraid of being branded ‘transphogic’ bigots, so they dutifully refer to a predatory child molester who admits to having approximately 60 victims as “female” and “she”.

“Female molester facing strict release conditions”

    http://m.calgarysun.com/2016/09/28/female-molester-facing-strict-release-conditions

“She (Matthew Harks is male, and not “she”) was released in 2010 and began a 10-year long-term supervision order.

According to the parole board, that supervision order, which was lifted in July 2014, was “rife with compliance issues.”

Harks was convicted of two breaches in April 2016 and received a 330-day sentence.

The board said one of those breaches related to a long-term relationship with an incarcerated male sex offender that Harks had been in for more than a year without disclosing it to her parole officer.

In the second breach, the parole board said Harks chartered a plane and a taxi to go to a residence in another province to obtain money for the man, who she (he not she) was engaged to.

“Your actions were discovered because you did not pay the charter pilot, who contacted the police,” the documents indicate.

At the time of Harks’ offence in 2007, she (Harks is male, not “she”) was on probation following two convictions of sexual assault against two children aged four and five years old.

“You have also admitted to having approximately 60 victims and you estimate having committed 200 offences, with some of those offences being multiple offences against some of your victims,” the parole board stated.

The board noted that in April 2006, Harks was identified in a dangerous offender psychiatric assessment as having an “all encompassing preoccupation with interest in sexually abusing young girls.”

The documents indicate Harks could also be facing charges for three alleged offences that took place recently while she (Harks is not “she”) was in custody: assault, unlawful confinement and sexual assault.

Harks is also subject to conditions imposed by the court in March 2014 that prohibit her (him not her) from attending facilities including daycare centres, school grounds or playgrounds.

She (Harks is male, not “she”) is also banned from using a computer system for the purpose of communicating with a person under the age of 14.”

So, this male sexual predator is supposed to stay away from school grounds, child care centers, etc., but he is legally entitled to follow any young girl into the women’s restroom or locker room. How the hell does this work? Matthew Harks can use any women’s locker room. A psychiatric assessment states Matthew Harks has “an all encompassing preoccupation with interest in sexually abusing young girls”, and he gets to change clothes with girls and women. No mother wants this man in the same restroom or locker room with their daughter. Moreover, what does this to do crime statistics? Will male sex offenders be classifed as female sex offenders? Won’t this skew reliable crime data and statistics?

This is sick, and if people can’t see how sick and crazy it has become, then God help us all.

    • k.jane Says:

You are right. Listing male sex offenders as women/female is skewing things like crime statistics. Also, the highest paid “woman” CEO is a man too. So it looks like there are more women in traditionally male-dominated fields than there really are and also that more women are committing violent crimes, including sexual assault/rape. Really the number of men decide they are women after they have been convicted of being serial killers and/or rapists of women, girls, and boy children has proven to me that it’s just a sexual fetish/paraphilia.

I continue to be disgusted whenever the news refers to male child molesters as women, but I guess I’m just a bigot for not caring about their feeling and for caring about the safety of women and children instead.

    • Oak and Ash Says:

How is it that serious sex offenders are being allowed to change their name and identity? What kind of idiot thinks that’s a good idea?

I’m enraged that the crimes of these guys may be attributed to women. It both skews the data so that we can’t draw correct conclusions and may further erode women’s privacy rights if trans supporters use the crimes of transwomen as evidence that, since women commit crimes as horrific as men’s, we’re already not safe in women’s spaces and so have no reason for demanding that men be kept out.

FYI:My computer finally died. I’ll try to check in periodically from the library until I can afford a replacement. Take care folks! It’s been a great ride! x

  3. Cheryl Says:

    Dear GallusMag,

I only wish I could give you more.
What you are doing so selflessly, is so important to me and so many others.

    I believe in you.

    Sincerely,

    Cheryl

    • GallusMag Says:

      THANK YOU Cheryl!!!!
      Here is the update:
Cheryl and a few others have kindly and generously sent tips to the PayPal to buy me a new computer. I have located an eight year old computer that is compatible with my files. WHICH IS FANTASTIC!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
The only issue is that, like two years ago, this computer will likely also die within a year or two and is already verging on obsolescence. If anyone has any money they want to contribute so I can get a newer computer YOU HAVE 48 HOURS to do so. After 48 hours if I don’t get anymore tips I will buy the one I have lined up and hopefully it will be functional for the near future. Either way, thanks to YOU WHO KNOW WHO YOU ARE! ❤ ❤ ❤ I will be back soon. XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX XXXXXXXXXXXXXo

Supposing your contributors get together and come up with some cash? How much would it take? I could give my next 12 months’ commitment as a lump sum.

  6. J Says:

I’m so glad I found this blog. At first I was comfortable accepting trans women (Seems fine, why not, right?). Now that I’ve started to notice the violence in trans advocacy, it’s terrifying. And being aware of the pattern of violence against women makes it particularly stark.

I don’t want to be a creep and spam you, and I hope this isn’t inappropriate:

I wrote a couple of essays on violence against women and put them on a tumblr page. I think it could be helpful in breaking down this situation for people (My therapist liked it).

Gallus, I tried to donate by credit card, but I’m in Canada and it doesn’t allow for a Canadian province to be input on the information. What can I do?

  8. Collier Lass Says:

    Dear Gallus:

Just tossed in a hundred dollars because the work that you are doing is so important to all women. I wish for you the sufficiency to not have to worry about how to keep going.

    Many lives, many blessings!

  9. Rachel Says:

Feel free to move this Gallus, but something important has happened in the UK again. A supposedly trans child has been removed from his mother’s care and an investigation has found that his “feminine identity” was forced upon him by her. Mermaids are calling it transphobic and petitions are going round Facebook. Court transcript is here: http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/Fam/2016/2430.html
