I got into a twitter discussion with the “transgender children” charity and political lobby Mermaids UK the other day after an individual presenting themselves as a representative posted a video where she stated that (although most children who are diagnosed with “Gender Dysphoria” turn out to be well-adjusted, non-transgender, adult Lesbians and Gays if allowed to mature without medical intervention) one should never mention it because homosexuality is “a deviant kind of thing”. You can view that video here and judge for yourself.

Mermaids UK responded to my request for clarification and to related questions by other tweeters with some very disturbing homophobia.

The parents at Transgender Trend did a nice write-up on the incident. TG-logo7

If you want insight into the views of the Mermaids CEO Susan Green- a mother who flew her gay son to the US at age 12 to medically retard his reproductive system, then to Thailand at the age of 16 to have him surgically castrated- you can read it here:

tatchell

Legendary Gay Rights campaigner Peter Tatchell

The UK National Union of Students LGBT officer Fran Cowling accused celebrated five-decade Gay Rights campaigner Peter Tatchell of “racism” and “transphobia” and pledged to remove zirself from a university panel on “Re-radicalising Queers” if Tatchell was permitted to speak. When asked to provide evidence of the charges, Cowling deleted zir social media presence.

According to a report from The Guardian the NUS official’s allegations were based on Tatchell’s signing of a petition calling for an end to the transgender activist intimidation and no-platforming of feminists. Transgenderists believe that social stereotypes based on sex are hard-wired in the brain and that incongruence is a birth defect, therefore feminism is “transphobic”. The letter was published in the Guardian’s Observer one year ago, on February 13, 2015. “We call on universities and other organisations to stand up to attempts at intimidation and affirm their support for the basic principles of democratic political exchange,” the signatories proclaimed. You can read the full text here: https://gendertrender.wordpress.com/2015/02/14/the-guardian-letter-we-cannot-allow-censorship-and-silencing-of-individuals/

Gays and lesbians are increasingly targeted by transgenderists as expressing a “transphobic” sexual orientation because homosexuality is based on biological sex, not “gender identity” (what transgenderists define as “psychological sex”) or self-identification with sex stereotypes. Lesbians are hounded with rape and death threats by heterosexual male transwomen for excluding males from their social and sexual lives. Michfest, the longest running lesbian festival in history was shuttered last year after sustained harassment from “male lesbians”. Meanwhile gay men are castigated for their homosexuality. The Stonewall Monument was criminally vandalized by transgender activists last summer in a hideous expression of homophobia.

fran cowling

Anti-feminist Anti-gay campaigner Fran Cowling

“I will campaign to break down the rigid ideas that still exist in regards to sexual orientation and gender identity. I believe sexuality and gender is fluid,” stated Fran Cowling in zer goals as LGBT officer. Making spurious false accusations against national treasure of Gay Liberation Peter Tatchell and promoting a platform of “no-platform” against feminists, lesbians, and gays, are apparently part of that campaign. As for Tatchell, “he has thrown himself in front of ministerial cavalcades, stopping the official cars of both John Major and Tony Blair with his placards, despite the best efforts of security officers, and pulled out banners of dissent under the noses of visiting dictators. He has helped track down a Nazi war criminal, has been arrested around 300 times and had about 50 objects smash his flat windows. He has also received such vicious beatings from the thugs of Presidents Robert Mugabe and Vladimir Putin that he has suffered lasting brain injuries.”

Reading this makes me glad that I grew up in a time and place where such resources weren’t present. If I may tell a bit of my story to highlight why I agree with this doctor. Born male, I can only speak to my experience regarding the homosexual mtt side, so I don’t discuss the ftt side because it isn’t my place to do so.

I was a young gay kid, constantly attacked for being ‘feminine’, in a violently homophobic environment which militantly guarded classical gender roles. Eventually I learned how to play the right role and stopped getting harassed, but this was very taxing, depressing, and repulsive to me. It wore me down to such an extent that it became easier to fall for the transgender tropes than it was to accept that my situation was hopeless.

Homelessness as a young teenager was a distinct possibility if I didn’t learn to conform–a stated policy in my house in fact. I see now that my situation rhymes in some ways with the situation many gays and lesbians face in Iran, where the state and society attempt to erase their homosexuality via surgery in order to preserve the social regime. To my shame, though there was no state forcing me down this path, I stumbled down it on my own because, absurdly enough, it was easier for me (in my mind) to try to erase my homosexuality and natural deviation from gender norms, than to stand up for myself and face the consequences. By thinking I was trans, I was suddenly (in my mind) no longer a hated and self-loathing effeminate gay boy but somebody with a fixable medical condition who would, after fixing it, end up leading a perfectly normal life. It was a false hope that made the years of conforming more bearable when I really should have been looking towards the hope of change, the hope of resisting, the hope of breaking the chains of homophobia and patriarchy. The trans propaganda can be enticing for some vulnerable young gay minds since it offers a sort of out to the seeming contradiction of being biologically male (or female) yet not behaving or loving like males (or females) are supposed to behave or love. But it is a hope that affirms rather than resists classic patriarchy.

Last year (I’m in my early 30s now), I nearly started down a path of trans medical intervention that would have bankrupted me and damaged my body. Just before an appointment, a friend had a personal tragedy and needed the money I had saved up more than I did. This delayed my entry into the medical path and gave me time to think more carefully and do more research. This website above all others helped me see through the confusion, helped me realize that I could only find happiness by living my life as a proud gay man, that I could only honor women by respecting them, listening to them, and resisting patriarchy where I could.

What if I had gone down the medical path as I almost did last year as an adult, or worse yet, what if I had these resources available as a teenager when I was at my most vulnerable? I think I would have created a miserable life for myself. As of now, I’m finding happiness honoring my biology, honoring my sexuality, honoring my difference. I am grateful that I was never “blessed” so early by access to a medical establishment that is alarmingly eager to let people damage their bodies. I am learning to unwind the masks I created to protect myself as a teen as I build the courage to be who I am openly and proudly.

If you are under 16, you can’t vote, you can’t drive, you can’t smoke or drink alcohol, you can’t gamble, you can’t enter into a contract, you can’t live on your own, but in our brave new world you can elect to make radical hormonal and physical changes to your body. The justice system recognizes that the teenage brain is not fully formed and doesn’t hold juveniles to the same level of accountability as it does adults; yet the trans movement says that they should be virtually handed pills and a scalpel. Thank you for continuing to point out the absurdity of this.

I think most people on either side of this issue want the same thing: a better world for the next generation. I strongly suspect that this better world can be found through social change rather than surgical intervention. The former is a lot harder than the latter, but it’s also the only path that will improve the world for everyone, not just the few.

blackface stonewall

“Trans Woman of Color”?

A gaggle of deranged caucasian Tumblerites (or as I like to call them, Brooklyn Genderqueers) has painted ghastly blackface on statues commemorating the historic gay riot at the Stonewall Inn, turning the figures into the most offensive lawn jockeys* imaginable. They were protesting a film that has not yet been released, and that they have not seen: the upcoming Hollywood drama “Stonewall”. Based on movie trailers, Transgender activists complain that they anticipate the film’s depiction of events that occurred at the predominantly gay white male establishment might be too gay and too white.

The 1969 Stonewall Riot occurred in New York’s Greenwich Village when gay patrons spontaneously refused to submit to a routine police raid of the venue. Lesbian and Gay public establishments were illegal back then and those caught in them were arrested, prosecuted for “indecency”, and their names published in the newspaper, “outing” them to employers as criminal sexual degenerates. Police routinely battered the gay men and raped the gay women.

That night, June 28, two years after the hippie “Summer of Love”, one year after 150 feminists set siege to the Miss America pageant, setting off stink-bombs in the hall and throwing curlers, tweezers, stockings and high-heeled shoes (and yes, bras) into a trash can as they crowned a live sheep Miss America, at the height of the Black Power movement, and the Vietnam War protests, something changed. Gay people refused to get into the paddy wagons*. Not one or two but all of them. They fought police and the whole neighborhood came out to join them. Riot!!!

The second night a spontaneous street celebration and makeshift parade took place. Reports state that it was faaabulous. Gay Pride! It was the birth of Gay Pride and we commemorate this uprising of fierce, fierce, pride in every city, town and hamlet worth its sequined thong every year, in June or July, whenever we get around to it.

The so-called “Stonewall Monument” is a work of art by pop artist George Segal named ‘Gay Liberation’. It was commissioned in 1979 by arts patron Peter Putnam and consists of four life-sized bronze figures, not sculpted, but cast in plaster bandages. They are painted white to replicate the plaster Putnam used for casting. The people used to make the casts were each a real gay male and gay female couple who were friends of the artist. The two couples are touching each other intimately (but not sexually). All four of the models are believed to have been white. One of the gay men modeled in the piece shared his reflections in a 2009 article here: http://www.glreview.org/article/article-526/ .

Segal was not the first choice for the commission but he was the first that accepted the (then socially unpopular) task. He had just finished his piece commemorating the Kent State shootings. The instructions for the work were that the piece “had to be loving and caring, and show the affection that is the hallmark of gay people … and it had to have equal representation of men and women.” The work was considered very controversial and “explicit” at the time and was installed in Greenwich Village in 1992 after the initial 1984 installation at Stanford University was vandalized over 40 times by anti-gay individuals, including battery by hammer. Since its installation in small Christopher Park across the street from the Stonewall Inn the work has come to be known as the “Stonewall Monument”.

gay_liberation_sheridan_squ

The latest vandalization is unique in that the gay men were painted in a way that portrays “blackface” with giant red lips, and afro and brown wigs. Bras were also adhered to the gay men’s chests. No word on why beards and penises where not affixed to the lesbian figures.

blackface stonewall 2

The transgender activists perpetrating the Stonewall Blackface Incident were apparently inspired by the words of “Miss Major”, a seventy three year old male who amazingly claims to have participated in both the Stonewall Riots and the riots at the Attica maximum security penitentiary. “Miss Major” made the following comment about the “Stonewall Monument” as posted on Autostraddle last week:

“Two fags, two lesbians and some random person looking like they were walking into the Park are the statues that are there. Someone should smash those motherfuckers up and turn them into the white dust that they are and put a couple of statues of people of color and at least make one of them an overly obnoxious transgender woman 6’5″, three inch heels, blond/red hair, lashes, beads, feathers and put one of those fine white boys next to her, now that I can handle! [laughter] And let’s have two lesbians at the end with luggage because they’re moving in together! [laughter]” [sic]

In comments at Autostraddle one of the white female trans vandals states:

“Unfortunately, we don’t have the skills or funds to cast sculptures of our own. We also couldn’t paint the entire statues brown because Christopher Park is a highly busy and visible area and we were worried about being arrested. It sucks that some people are correlating it to Black face (and we see why), but that’s decontextualizing what we did. Anyway, we hope that this gets the ball rolling and that we’ll soon see sculptures representing the people of color who led the riots.”

This event nicely caps off a long summer of transgender protests against Gay Pride events for being too gay. From Glasgow’s Pride event, which banned drag queens as offensive to heterosexual male transgenders, to the heckler disrupting president Obama’s White House Pride reception, to the forced signing of a gender loyalty pledge required of participants at Vancouver Pride, to the trans activists that sat down in the street and forced Boston’s Pride parade to come to a screeching halt, to Auckland’s Pride where they did the same thing and resisted arrest. San Diego Pride tried to thwart the inevitable by naming “the entire transgender community” as their Grand Marshal, but was still marred by “die-ins” by trans activists who wanted to draw attention to transgender despair and the fact that 14 out of the 12,000 people murdered annually in the US. are transgender victims.

Is Transgender the Last Wave of Anti-Gay Activism?
